I woke up about 3:30 am thinking about what I could write for the blog. Why does that happen? I wanted to sleep but my mind was off and running so I was not going to go back to sleep. My mind was directed to health care professionals. I know we had been to what seemed like hundreds of medical appointments where we met a multitude of nurses, doctors, techs and office workers. I have the utmost respect for what they do on a daily basis.
I can honestly say the care that was given to Connie and I, for the most part, was awesome. I reflected on the amazing floor nurses that were with Connie when she was moved to a step-down unit. This is where they prepare the patient for their possible transition home. This is detailed in the chapter, “Time in The Hospital”.
One nurse was incredibly unique. She came into the room one day and following behind her was a little dog. I do not remember what kind of dog it was but it was extremely cute with floppy ears. She reached down, picked up her dog and put it on Connie’s bed. Connie’s face lit up with excitement as she began petting the dog. The nurse said the hospital gave permission to bring her little dog in once a week to cheer up the patients, similar to how therapy dogs are used. That little dog followed her in and out of rooms all day long. There were numerous instances where the medical professionals were so incredible, I could almost write another book highlighting just that.
Being married to Connie who was a nurse, gave me insight into what they go through on a daily basis. We had a lot of conversation at the dinner table about her day. There were multiple challenges as well as individuals dealt with daily. I wish everyone could walk a mile in their shoes and see what their job entails.
So, to every health care worker/medical professional on the front lines (especially with what is going on in the world), I want to personally thank you for what you do day in and day out. THANK YOU so much for all that you do and for taking care of us. Without you, the world would not be the same. You are priceless.
